Move America Forward endorses Tom Rooney in FL-16 race

MAF Freedom PAC, the political arm of Move America Forward, the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization, has endorsed Republican Tom Rooney for Florida’s 16th District in Congress.

“Tom Rooney will be steadfast in giving our troops the attention they demand and the credit they’ve earned,” Catherine Moy, the group’s executive director, stated in a release.

Rooney is challenging Congressman Tim Mahoney, D-Palm Beach Gardens.

“Tim Mahoney believes national security means port security and first responders. He has no plan for victory in Iraq and gives little credit to our military men and women. We can’t afford that kind of shortsightedness in congress,” Moy stated.

“Tom Rooney understands why it’s so critical not to abandon the American soldiers he served with who are fighting to prevent further acts of terror on American soil. He will never turn his back on these brave men and women.”

South Florida Sun Sentinel Endorses Tom Rooney (FL-16)

The Sun Sentinel Editorial Board strongly urges voters choose Republican Thomas Rooney.

An attorney, Rooney has a solid record of public service. He is a former special assistant U.S. Attorney and served in the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General Corps.

Rooney, 37, follows a conservative Republican line. He supports efforts to control government spending, and believes the current surge policy in Iraq has promoted stability.

In health care, Rooney advocates reforms that would allow small businesses to pool their resources in association health plans. He would also back efforts to allow individuals to buy tax deductible health care plans nationwide rather than through governments or employers.

Rooney, if elected, may well find himself out-of-step with the expected Democratic majority in the 111th Congress. If he’s marginalized, it will undermine his effectiveness on Capitol Hill. So he may have to find ways to work with the Democratic majority.

Support Tom Rooney For U.S. House Seat In District 16

If voters in the 16th Congressional district were struggling to decide whom to vote for in our district’s U.S. House of Representative race, the process got a lot easier this week. Tom Rooney, the Republican challenger, is a quality candidate whom we endorse for the position.

Rooney, who served in the Army and taught at West Point, is a staunch conservative who also has some maverick in him when it comes to the Iraq War. He served there, and has disagreed with the president on issues pertaining to the war, especially concerning torture and our need to get out of there. We like that he thinks for himself and isn’t bought and paid for by special interests. If elected, voters must demand that he continues working for the people, not lobbyists.

He liked the Senate version of the bailout bill passed a few weeks ago, and wants to make sure the root causes of our nation’s financial woes are addressed, not pushed aside in an attempt at a quick fix that is temporary. He wants predatory lenders banned and more oversight.

We endorsed Rooney in the Republican Primary because he seemed to have fresh ideas and the intelligence and determination to change Washington, D.C. In some ways he reminds us of a young John McCain.

Tom Rooney deserves the voter’s support.

CCAGW PAC Endorses Tom Rooney for Florida’s 16th District

WASHINGTON, Oct 17, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGW PAC) today announced its endorsement of Tom Rooney for Congress in Florida’s 16th Congressional District. Mr. Rooney is running against incumbent Rep. Tim Mahoney.

“Tom Rooney is a fiscal conservative who believes in less government and lower taxes. He has pledged to reduce the size of government by working to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse,” CCAGW PAC Chairman Tom Schatz said. “He understands the critical need to end Congress’s addiction to spending and earmarking.” In contrast, Rep. Mahoney received a vote rating of 16 percent from the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW). A member of Congress with a rating less than 20 percent makes him a big spender and “hostile” to taxpayers.

Mr. Rooney has signed the CCAGW Earmark Reform Pledge. The pledge features ten principles designed to bring increased transparency and accountability to the spending process. Rep. Mahoney has not signed the CCAGW earmark pledge. In fact, he supported wasteful earmarks in the fiscal 2008 spending bills such as funding for the National Mule and Packers Museum, the Houston Zoo, the Lobster Institute in Maine, and grape genetics research in Geneva, N.Y.

In his CCAGW PAC Candidate Questionnaire, Mr. Rooney pledged support for taxpayer-friendly initiatives such as budget and earmark reform, tax cuts, a Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights, and the line-item veto.

“Tom Rooney has the ability to lead Congress to improve the future economic outlook. America needs leaders who say ‘no’ to the continuing spending and pork-fest in Washington. Tom Rooney will work in the best interests of Florida’s 16th District and taxpayers nationwide,” Schatz concluded.

CCAGW PAC is affiliated with the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, a 501(c)(4) organization. CCAGW PAC’s mission is to support political candidates who will fight to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government and represent the best interests of taxpayers.

Let’s Fix Washington’s Mess

Dear Fellow Floridian,

Like you and millions of Americans, my wife and I have been paying close attention to the news of the past several weeks. It’s clear that Washington needs to change the way it operates. We need new and bold leadership to navigate our country through difficult times – not professional politicians who’s first instinct is to raise our taxes to pay for their mess.

My name is Tom Rooney. I am running for Congress to make sure that our children and grandchildren don’t have to endure a financial meltdown or an energy crisis.

As a fiscal conservative, I’ll fight wasteful spending and work to lower taxes. I’ll support drilling and a balanced energy plan that will reduce gas prices.

As a former U.S. Army captain and criminal prosecutor, I know about leadership and what it takes to get the job done. Less government, less taxes, more freedom – it’s a slogan that Washington’s forgotten, but Floridian’s haven’t.
With your help, we can bring our shared values to Washington. Please join my team today. Together we can win.
