“…The energy, the passion and the commitment to bringing about
real reform instead of quietly supporting business as usual.”
WASHINGTON, DC – After months of review and consideration of all three Republican candidates, the House Conservatives Fund (HCF) today announced its endorsement of Tom Rooney in the race to challenge Tim Mahoney for Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
Despite the significant challenges presented in 2006, Republican candidate Joe Negron was able to garner 49 percent of the vote in this traditionally Republican district. Pundits consistently rate this as a toss-up race, and HCF believes that Tom Rooney’s military background and his real world experience make him the candidate best able to take back this seat.
“Tom Rooney understands the need to change the culture here in Washington,” said conservative Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. “He is exactly the kind of candidate that the House Conservatives Fund looks to support: someone with the energy, the passion and the commitment to bringing about real reform instead of quietly supporting business as usual. I am confident that Republicans will be able to reclaim this seat in November with a conservative like Tom Rooney as our nominee.”
Rooney’s calls for government reform, increased energy independence and decreased taxation resonate with the majority of voters in this district, who supported President Bush with 55% of the vote in 2004. Tom Rooney’s outsider perspective and his commitment to conservative principles are a clear contrast to Mahoney’s support of Nancy Pelosi’s liberal agenda (despite his claims to moderation on the campaign trail.)
The House Conservatives Fund is a non-connected federal PAC which supports Republican candidates and incumbents who demonstrate a commitment to economic and socially conservative issues. HCF advocates fiscal responsibility, limited government intrusion into the private sector, strong defense, and traditional family values.
