The visit by Congressman Tim Mahoney, D-Palm Beach Gardens, to Indiantown signified the main difference between our political philosophies. In the News recently, an article noted the first thing Mahoney did when he got to Indiantown was ask business leaders if they thought they were “getting their fair share of government money.” This is really the cornerstone of his leadership: to identify issues in the district and ask those involved how much money they need.
In fact, Mahoney has already promised tens of millions of dollars in earmarks for the district. Just go to his Web site. He’ll tell you himself. But money doesn’t grow on trees. In order to pay for all these promises, Mahoney would need to raise taxes. He has said over and over the tax cuts haven’t worked. If you believe that and the promise of money from Washington — and you don’t mind taxes — then vote for him. If you believe the government should be limiting spending, pay for security at home and abroad, and that you are paying enough in taxes, then vote for me, please.
In fact, I believe we need even further federal tax cuts to help small businesses stimulate the economy. The choice is clear: Do you want to be in charge of your money, or do you want Mahoney in charge?
Don’t be fooled by the temptation of promises of money for our local issues. What kind of leader goes around to his constituency and says, “how much do you need for your problems?” Sounds to me like he is trying to buy your vote. But he’s got to get the money from somewhere.
So the next time Mahoney asks you how much you need to take care of your problems, ask yourself if you can afford it.

Tom and his family enjoyed the holiday break by biking at Lake Okeechobee. “I strongly believe that we need to be good stewards of our environment and teach our children to do the same,” Rooney said. “As congressman, I will fight to protect the environment so that our children and grandchildren can enjoy all of God’s great gifts for generations to come.”
